East Saint Louis is known for being the City of Champions, and that is exactly what Shardae King, East Saint Louis naive is known for. Since the age of 3, Shardae has been a dedicated 3 sport student-athlete in Track and Field, Volleyball, and Basketball. In 8th grade, Shardae made a huge impact for the St. Louis Crusaders AAU team, where she played against top basketball players from around the United States. At a early age, Shardae began getting recognition by several colleges while playing AAU basketball. Coach Tim Hill, head coach for STL Crusaders, played a huge impact in her high school and college career. Throughout the course of her high school career, Shardae maintained high education achievement, maintaining a 3.8 G.P.A. Though Shardae received scholarship offers in Volleyball and Track and Field, she chose to take a full basketball scholarship at Western Kentucky University. Shardae was a student-athlete at Western Kentucky University from 2003-2005. In January 2006, she decided to be closer to home in order to finish her college education and began working to help students in her hometown. Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Womens basketball team became the new home for Shardae until she graduated with a Bachelors degree in Exercise and Wellness. Post college, Shardae immediately started coaching at her Alma Mater high school, East Saint Louis Sr. High School. She was the assistant coach for 5 years under her father Coach Hubert Butler Jr. In 2013, Shardae took over in her father's footsteps and was announced as East Saint Louis Girls Basketball Head Coach. This new journey encouraged Shardae to pursue higher education at Lindenwood University to obtain her Masters in Education. Shardae now is a full-time Physical Education teacher and part-time Adjunct teacher at Lindenwood University. She continues her passion coaching and developing kids so that they can have the same or better opportunity that she was afforded through high academics and athletic achievement. Shardae believes that every kid can achieve their goals if they give 100% effort and have support. Coach Shardae King is a wife to Nicholas King and the mother of two beautiful daughters, Hailey Skye Gray and Zhuri King.
